New Capture Tool for VIUTube Coming June 30

There is a new capture tool coming this summer to VIUTube. This new tool will replace CaptureSpace which has been available to faculty, staff, and students since the summer of 2017.

Why Is the Tool Changing?

The new tool, Personal Capture, has been developed in house by Kaltura (the company that created VIUTube) to simplify and enhance the video creation process for Kaltura customers like VIU. The current CaptureSpace tool was purchased by Kaltura and will no longer be available after June 30, 2019.

What Is Changing?

The new Capture tool offers the same features and functions as CaptureSpace, but in a more streamlined interface. Watch the video below to see a demonstration of Personal Capture from it’s development team.

Like CaptureSpace, Personal Capture can be downloaded and launched from VIUTube and will automatically upload to your My Media library as private media. You can use the new capture tool to record up to three inputs (cameras or screens) as well as audio.

The biggest difference between Personal Capture and CaptureSpace, is when and where you can edit your video. You will no longer see an editing interface when you finish your recording. Instead, you can use the Editor within VIUTube to perform simple edits, like trimming and chopping, on your video at any time once it has been uploaded. You can also use this same editor to add quiz questions or reflection points to a video.

This new editor is already available on VIUTube for anyone who wants to check it out. You can also watch the tutorial video below to see an overview of the editing tools now available.
