The Japanese program at VIU is looking for Japanese-speaking volunteers who can help students in the first and second year Japanese language courses. In the past years, many international students took this opportunity and enjoyed meeting Canadians and other international students who are interested in Japanese language and culture.  If you are interested in teaching Japanese to non-native speakers in the future, this would be a great opportunity to have a first-hand experience.

You, as a volunteer, come to class on a regular basis (once or twice a week) and help students to practice Japanese by engaging in-class activities together. Sometimes, you meet students outside the classroom and give them brief tutoring sessions.

If you are fluent in Japanese (non-Japanese students are also welcome) and interested in this opportunity, please send an e-mail at yoichi.mukai@viu.ca, with the following information.

  • Your Name
  • How often you can come to class
  • Your availability to meet the student outside of class

Please feel free to contact me at yoichi.mukai@viu.ca if you need any further information.
