Travel instructions:  
From the North:  Head south along the Nanaimo Parkway to the Jingle Pot/Third Street exit; turn left (east).  At Wakesiah Avenue (at the lights), turn right (south).  At Fourth Street (after Nanaimo District Secondary School), turn right, go all the way up the hill; the road bears to the left.  Turn right at the blue/white 4E sign to enter Parking Lot N.  There are buildings parallel to and above (west) the parking lot.  Building 355 is the second building from the end.

Note: Parking is free after 4pm M-F, and all day weekends.

  • Unwanted Soldiers, film screening followed by Q&A with Dick Mah

  • 10:00am – Poetry reading by Jim Wong-Chu, author of Chinatown Ghosts (for children & adults)
  • 12:30pm – Commemorating the Chinese Canadian Experience, panel discussion with Marty Chan, Denise Chong, Jim Wong-chu, and Yuen-fong Woon. Moderator: Dr. Helen Brown
  • 2:15pm – Island of Shadows, film screening followed by Q&A with Chris Yorath, author of A Measure of Value, and Erik Paulsson, director/producer of Island of Shadows
  • 4:00pm – Reading by Denise Chong, author of The Concubine’s Children.

Welcome the Year of the Snake with the Nanaimo Chinese Cultural Society (cultural displays, demonstrations and the Lion Dance) and the Nanaimo District Museum (historical photograph display and children’s activities).
