About Me

Sharon Kelly, MA, PCC, BCC

My positions and titles at VIU are in Student Affairs and in the Faculty of Management where I am a Success Coach and a Professor respectively. Coaching generates learning and clarity for forward action with a commitment to measurable outcomes.  I currently teach the Diversity and Inclusion classes in the Recreation and Sport and the Tourism Studies programs in the department of Recreation and Tourism. Within Student Affairs, I create workshops and offer one-to-one coaching to students across campus within the Student Success Services program.  I am a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) with the International Coach Federation (ICF) and am also a Narrative Coach – Enhanced Practitioner.  In this work, I have assisted many people gain clarity on their aspirations and create the changes necessary to realize them.

The following is a definition of coaching I rather like:
Coaching is partnering with [students] in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.
(adapted from the International Coaching Federation definition of coaching)

The change process can be challenging and uncomfortable at times and I believe that learning to be resilient and resourceful in the midst of the inevitable obstacles and barriers assists people to develop and grow in ways that make it possible for them to create the changes and lives they desire for themselves.
