About

There are so many things to say about GenAI and the teaching and learning landscape that we hardly know where to start: What is it? Is it actually intelligent? Should I use it? Should I teach my students to use it? What are the ethical considerations? What about privacy and security?

After conversations with VIU faculty, VIU students, and colleagues at other universities, we’re pretty sure the high-level answer to each of these questions is ‘it’s complicated’. So, to help deepen the conversation in a meaningful way for you and your discipline, we’re hosting a mini-conference on GenAI. The goal is:

  • to introduce some of the tools in the GenAI landscape
  • to share insights and emerging practices
  • to support you to make the best decisions for your teaching and learning context
  • to help make connections across the campus as you explore your next steps

Join us on October 26, 2023 from 8:30am – 3:00pm for a discussion on how GenAI has had—or will have!—an impact on your teaching and learning practice.

The conference is geared toward faculty members and will focus on how GenAI is impacting their teaching and learning practice. However, registration is open to anyone who is interested about how GenAI has impacted the landscape of post-secondary education.
