What is OLI?

OLI is a 14 week institute that will guide you in designing a digital learning environment that is human centered, accessible, inclusive and mindful of your wellbeing and that of your students. Based on a proven history of successful online teaching and learning and the BC Post Secondary Digital Learning Strategy, we will help you make evidence based course design decisions. Through this opportunity you will develop new teaching strategies that you can immediately use in your course(s). 

By the end of OLI, you will be able to 

• Make deliberate design choices that are manageable for students and yourself. 
• Create human centered delivery and assessment plans. 
• Assess course activities from multiple perspectives including UDL, accessibility, inclusion, and flexibility. 
• Provide collaborative and constructive feedback as part of a community of practice. 
• Choose the right digital tools to create a learning community.  

Upon completion you will be recognized with a Certification of Completion to add to your teaching portfolio. 

Who should sign up?

Instructors who:

• already teach in an online, hybrid or blended format.
• are planning to teach in an online, hybrid or blended format.
• are new to teaching in online, hybrid or blended formats.
• are converting a face to face course to an online, hybrid or blended course.
• are teaching face to face courses, but would like to learn more about how technology can be used to enhance face to face teaching and learning.

When does OLI take place?

• Wednesday, May 22, 9-noon: synchronous workshop
• Thursday, May 23, 1pm – 4pm: synchronous workshop
• Friday, May 24 – Tuesday, June 11: asynchronous activities and 1 (or more) meeting(s) with a facilitator
• Wednesday, June 12, 9-noon: synchronous workshop
• Thursday, June 13 – August 20: asynchronous activities with facilitators available as needed
• Wednesday, August 21, 9-noon: synchronous workshop
• Fall 2024: 1 (or more) check ins for support from facilitators
