Beyond ChatGPT – AI Poll Results

A few weeks ago, we invited VIU faculty to participate in an anonymous survey to see what you already know about Artificial Intelligence (AI).  We asked two questions based on a research report, Views of Canadians on Artificial Intelligence. Thirty-four people responded, and the results are illustrated below.

AI can do nearly all tasks to some extent, except for acting human in social situations and experiencing emotions.

In the Views of Canadians on Artificial Intelligence report, the study participants responded as follows:

  • Play games (65%)
  • Perform video surveillance (68%)
  • Replace humans doing dangerous tasks (58%)
  • Feel emotion (5%)
  • Behave as humans do in social settings (18%)
  • Think logically (43%)
  • Help solve business problems (54%)
  • Interpret speech (66%)
  • Interpret images (61%)
  • Learn from data to increase understanding (69%)
  • Compose music (41%)

What technologies use AI?

What Are the Correct Answers?

All of the technologies listed are AI-enabled.

In the Views of Canadians on Artificial Intelligence report, the study participants responded as follows:

  • Virtual assistant (i.e. Siri, Alexa, etc.) (80%)
  • Online virtual assistant (i.e. Chat bot, etc.) (73%)
  • Image/search recognition (67%)
  • Predictive search terms (i.e. predictions of what you are looking for based on popular search terms, etc.) (62%)
  • Recommender systems (i.e. online shopping, Netflix, etc.) (60%)
  • Email spam filters (52%)
