The Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Learning (CIEL) is inviting any new teaching faculty member or sessional instructor to connect with us for a dedicated one-on-one consultation on teaching and learning at VIU. You can book your consultation by emailing learnsupport@viu.ca.
What is the CIEL?
The CIEL is VIU’s Teaching and Learning Centre. Our team of specialists is dedicated to developing and enhancing teaching excellence across the university to support inclusive, innovative, and engaging learning experiences. The centre offers extensive resources and assistance to faculty and students, including technical support for our core learning technology tools, such as VIULearn. One of our goals is to meet and engage with new faculty and sessionals and provide them with a supportive and relational orientation to teaching at VIU. Any teaching challenge or worry you have as you teach your new course/s, we have a team here to help you!
Flexible Format
Our consultations are meant to support instructors wherever they may be. We can meet online or face-to-face, so just let us know your preference when you reach out. We recommend booking a one hour session to ensure a comprehensive consultation, but we can support shorter or longer consultations depending on your needs. We can also book follow up consultations for instructors who like to go away, think, build, and come back for more discussion and feedback.
Flexible Content
Our specialists will guide instructors through a variety of topics related to teaching and learning at VIU. Although we come to the conversation with a loose structure of key topics and resources that we like to discuss with new faculty, we are interested in focusing on your questions and tailoring the session to your needs and interests.
