As Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to influence the landscape of post-secondary education, educators across British Columbia are seeking clear, responsible pathways for its integration. To meet this need, the province has released a draft resource: Model Principles and Guidelines for the Use of Artificial Intelligence: An Informational Resource for the B.C. Post-Secondary System. The resource was developed by a working group as part of the B.C. Post-Secondary Digital Learning Strategy (DLS).
How to Use This Document
Whether you are updating a syllabus, designing new assessments, or drafting statements for your coursework, these guidelines can be adapted to fit your specific context and pedagogical goals. The document serves as a collaborative framework to help institutions and educators navigate the complexities of generative AI (GenAI) and other AI technologies. It aims to reduce the duplication of effort across the province by providing a shared foundation for both policy development and classroom practice.
To support practical implementation, the appendix includes illustrative examples that demonstrate how these principles can be applied. These examples are intended as starting points that can be adapted, modified, or expanded to ensure they are appropriate for your context.
