Are You (still) Marking Too Much? Reclaiming the Joy of Teaching: A Faculty Studio
October 6 @ 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm
How much marking is necessary? Could we mark and grade less, yet still be respectable? Does marking and grading less affect or improve student learning? Is it possible to find more balance between student needs and expectations, and the realities we face as faculty?
These are just a few of the inquiries you are invited to explore with your VIU colleagues in a “studio” format. A studio is meeting of 6 -10 faculty in a room where everyone commits to sharing insights and learning together. Sessions are 90 minutes long.
In this studio, VIU faculty are invited to share challenges related to marking and grading, pose questions to deepen collective understanding, and offer solutions for all to draw from. We may explore the possibility of reframing the way we think about feedback, evaluation, scoring and marking, with the intention of aligning these more directly with the visible learning that makes teaching so satisfying.
