Incorporating Wellness and Learning Strategies in the Classroom

August 26, 2021 @ 10:00 am 11:30 am

Launched at VIU in January, 2021, Thriving in Action is a free, evidence-based, well-being and success program for students. The program is co-facilitated by the CIEL and Counselling Services, and provides students with information and activities related to wellness and mindfulness practices, as well as connected learning strategies like time management and metacognition.

In this faculty-based session, TiA facilitators share examples of learning strategies (ie. time-management, teamwork, essay planning) and wellness practices (ie. self-compassion, growth mindset, relaxation) inspired by our experiences facilitating the TiA program for students. We also provide practical resources for faculty interested in meaningfully and productively integrating some of TiA’s learning and wellness strategies into their classroom. Through this session, we aim to create space for dialogue related to the intersections of health, wellness, metacognition and teaching. We hope to spread the principles of TiA as we continue to support not only teaching and learning in a holistic way, but faculty and students as well. As always, there will be time for questions, comments and discussion.
