Read on to learn about changes to Assessments and Quizzes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Assignments: file or text submission\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A new submission type has been added to the Assignments tool. This new type, \u201cFile or text submission\u201d, allows students to submit either an attachment or type into an HTML field to submit their assignment. This gives you a lot of flexibility for the format students can submit for work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, assignments with the option to submit a link or a file were challenging to configure in VIULearn. Students submitting a link had to save it in a document for upload, or upload a blank document to be able to submit their link in the comments field. Now, you can set up your assignment folder so the file attachment is not required and students only need to attach a file if that\u2019s part of their submission.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary>Video: using file or text submission assignments in VIULearn <\/summary>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed wp-block-embed-embed\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"File or text submission folder\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" src=\"https:\/\/viu.video.yuja.com\/V\/Video?v=1211931&#038;node=6681566&#038;a=92847427\" frameborder=\"0\" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary>Steps for instructors <\/summary>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>While in the assignment creation or editing screen, click <strong>Submission &amp; Completion<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select <strong>File or text submission<\/strong> from the Submission Type drop-down\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When you\u2019re done making changes, click <strong>Save<\/strong> or <strong>Save and Close<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary>Steps for students<\/summary>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the assignment submission folder\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paste the link to your video, blog or e-portfolio in the Text Submission field\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have other material to submit you can add an optional attachment or comment\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Submit<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to embed your video rather than just including a link:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the assignment submission folder\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Copy the Embed Code from VIUTube\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In VIULearn, click on the Source Code symbol (&lt;\/>) and paste the embed code\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Save<\/strong>. You will see your video in the text submission field\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have other material to submit you can add an optional attachment or comment\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>Submit<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quizzes: reopen a submitted quiz attempt\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A new option is now available for students who run out of time on a quiz or submit the quiz before completing it in error. You can now re-open those submitted attempts so the student can continue where they left off. If your quiz has a time limit, you will have an option to add additional minutes for the student to complete their attempt. Previously, you had to give students special access with a second attempt to allow students a chance to finish their quiz. Now you will be able to choose how much time to give students to finish their original attempt<\/p>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary>Video: reopen a quiz attempt<\/summary>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed wp-block-embed-embed\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Re-open quiz attempt in VIULearn\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" src=\"https:\/\/viu.video.yuja.com\/V\/Video?v=1212302&#038;node=6685463&#038;a=48566278\" frameborder=\"0\" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary>Steps: reopen a quiz attempt<\/summary>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the grading screen for the quiz\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check the box next to the student(s) you want to reopen attempts for\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the <strong>reopen <\/strong>button located at the top of the table of user attempts\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter how much extra time you want to add to the attempts\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click <strong>reopen<\/strong> <strong>attempt<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quizzes: print your VIULearn quiz\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A new print quiz option will allow you to print a version of your quiz that is formatted to be taken on paper.
