We apologize for being unable to give proper notice of this change. The vulnerability was identified this week and was significant enough to require an immediate fix. Sites on VIUBlogs will be visible while we migrate the service but users are asked to make no changes on October 21, 2026 as changes made while the migration is ongoing will be lost.

What is changing?

VIUBlogs has been hosted on local servers on VIU’s Nanaimo campus for many years. We are now moving to hosting this service on AWS Canada. Moving to the cloud infrastructure allows us to better meet security and performance needs without expansive hardware and maintenance. AWS Canada is FOIPPA compliant and all of your information will stay in Canada when using VIUBlogs.

In addition to a more modern server infrastructure, this move has allowed us to set up Single Sign On for VIUBlogs for all VIU employees and students. Once we have completed the migration, you will be able to log into VIUBlogs with your email and computer account password. When you’re already signed in to Teams, Outlook or other services that use your VIU email account, you can be automatically signed into VIUBlogs when you click the sign in page.

If you have contributors on your site who are not VIU students or employees, please contact CIEL as learnsupport@viu.ca. for assistance with getting them access to your site after the migration.

A critical security issue has required that we move up a planned migration of VIUBlogs to a cloud provider to October 21, 2026.
