I’m thinking about doing away with a $70.00 textbook that is used every year in one of my classes and replacing it with an open source, on line, textbook: https://open.bccampus.ca/find-open-textbooks/?uuid=0c9b47a1-9309-470c-b83c-ed55f5e2a9ea&contributor=&keyword=&subject=
If I were to adopt this textbook I’d like the students to co-author specific sections (I think). I’d like them to make this a richer textbook by adding practical examples of how to apply the content in a natural resource setting, or augment the often dry content with a short video produced by students. All of the added material would be reflective of their passion for protecting the environment so the examples would be about applying the relevant ‘policing’ techniques in an outdoor setting.
This is a seed of an idea and I need to think more about learning outcomes for the assignment before saying much more. Meanwhile feel free to give me some more ideas!
