Students who have a high course grade in their introductory Japanese classes in high school can request to advance to JAPA 101 or JAPA 201 depending on availability.<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h4>You must bring your high school transcript <strong>on the first day of the class<\/strong> if you registered in JAPA101 or JAPA200 without completing prerequisite courses.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h4>If you have taken Japanese 12 but want to take JAPA100 and\/or JAPA101 for review purposes, you must obtain a permission from your instructor.<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Notes: <span style=\"color: #000000\">Students who<\/span> completed the high school Japanese course three or more years prior to the registration <\/span>need to receive a placement <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">before<\/span> the course starts to ensure their current level of proficiency.\u00a0 Please contact the <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><a style=\"text-decoration: none;color: #ff0000\" title=\"Contact Us\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.viu.ca\/japanese\/contact_us\/\">Japanese Program<\/a><\/span> to make an arrangement for the placement.<\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For students who studied Japanese at high school, they can receive an advanced placement within classes based on an assessment by the instructor.
