Castle Woodwarf

I like village-promoting game stuff, so I found it really interesting.

But it was not easy to maintain long.

There is three types of worker.

woodcutter, fisher, and collector.

Each workers have to maintain appropriate balance to keep its prosperity.

Main source is wood and fish.

Wood can be turn into the fuel to level up the workers or quality of sources.

And fish is the staple food of the dwarf. If fish runs out, it leads to a collapse of the whole civilization.

With handling all the resource and workers, I have to think deep to keep its optimal balance.

And another thing to consider was ‘the dragon’.

It’s just like a lifeline both guardian of the dwarf village.

It starts from the egg, and should be constantly upgraded as to protect the village from the enemies who get stronger and stronger.

Whatever I’ve done, every sequence usually ends with ‘ran out of fish’ occasion.

If there’s too many work uploaded, or too many workers are hired,

there should be affordable amount of fish.

But it runs out faster and faster.

So keeping sufficient fish was the key to longer prosperity.

The environment also can be developed.

At first, it starts with snowy weather. But it evolves to sunny weather -> rainy weather-> deeper pond. Which makes the resource more fertile.

In my third try, I found out that I could buy extra resources with the gems that I gathered during the game.

So I started with my doubled initial capital.

So I could make the village prosper twice longer.

The thing that I found out to maintain the village was

1)the most important thing is to keep the sufficient amount of fish(food)

-> if it runs out, regardless of the productivity, the civilization collapses.

2)second important thing is the ability of collector.

-> they have to be fast and affordable with larger number of resources.

Because they function to obtain the key resource for the survival.

3) all have to keep in balance.

-> numbers of worker don’t directly related to the prosperity of the village.

The more workers mean the more fish is needed. So it is not one-dimensional mechanism.

The key to maintain the village more qualified and longer, is the balance.

(+also care about the capacity of the dragon to meet stronger enemies)

I enjoyed it much, even it took a while to understand the optimal balance and I’m still learning…

We become what we behold

I played ‘We become what we behold’ game.

The title sounds philosophical.

And another interesting point is Marshall McLuhan, who is really familiar to the digital media studies student.

And this game is so profound and make me think about the responsibility of broadcasting and journalism.

As a Digital media and both journalism student, I was really impressed of the message of the game and couldn’t help covering this game.

Now it’s the review of the game.

At first, the world where circles and squares live together, was peaceful and normal.

The word ‘behold’ was represented as a TV broadcast.

If the TV broadcast a shot of hat-person (I understand it as an Opinion leader), people follow it.  (this is the critical point)

At first, even though I took several shots of circles and squares, nothing special happened.

<- you see the caption “yo gotta catch’em doing *something* interesting” ? this is literally horrifying.

But it was the start.

One single insane or drunken man (square) starts to yell at people and makes them afraid.

Some are frightened, and some are imitating him. Because they SAW the person who do like that.

And then one Square looks a bit irritated.

Now the squares and circles don’t look like they’re feelin good anymore.

They are all angry each other.

Because they saw the TV capturing circle is frightening squares, with the caption “CIRCLES HATE SQUARES”

and vice versa. I didn’t make a screenshot of it, there’s also a TV capturing “SQUARES HATE CIRCLES”

And now, this kind of coverage and belief drive them crazy, and aggravate the  mutual abhorrence.

And then a one with a hat (opinion leader) appears, and shoots the person.

All the people are horrified

But you see? now the appearance of ‘shooting person’ was captured

Everyone tries to pull the trigger to each other, not even noticing what are they doing.

All I could see was a reasonless holocaust.

Even I don’t know what makes the situation like this.

And last, the monitor is zoomed out, and visualize that I am no longer belong to the game’s world, but a spectator and both controller.

The last scene implies that ‘I’m the one who make the disaster with my own hand, with my laptop’

And you know what? the caption that comes out when I captured something trivial and not stimulating : “yo gotta catch’em doing *something* interesting”

The caption makes me to catch something more and more stimulative, violent, and striking. Because they react to *something interesting*

Maybe the one who appears as a opinion leader, shoot the person, and also direct me to capture something is a same person. Who is represented as a POWER, the AUTHORITY.

It’s a fearful thing to be a ignorant slave of the news from the power has made.

We have to be aware, not to be the exact thing that McLuhan and the game is warning,

“We become what we behold”

Home Story 1971

I played another puzzle game.

This game has so sad and nice story.

I (Jamie) have to find some puzzle to make it out.

I had to search something from  anywhere of whole house.

What I had to find was

These torn parts of picture.

In this story, Jamie and Jack were a good siblings, but unfortunately Jack died.

So the family lost their energy and happiness. And Jamie just starts to make the puzzle and open the Jack’s locked door.

She misses her brother so much.

This is what I found from the loft, the newspaper that  7-year-old boy(Maybe Jack) has drowned.. So sad :'(

The last piece of picture has fallen down from the clock

If I match the time 2:40. Maybe it means the time when Jack died,

and family’s time has stopped there.

Sooo sadddd 😢😭😭

And when the pieces are all gathered, and fix with the tape,

Jamie gave it to her mom. And mom gave her a key, regretting to be indifferent to Jamie, in sadness.

The game was done. Unlocking the Jack’s door.

The puzzle finding process wasn’t that hard.

I could make it in few minutes.

But I was really impressed and moved to its narrative.

It’s really nice that a simple game can put this moving story in it.

I can feel it every time when I find out the puzzle.

It was impressive. I loved this game 👍🏻

Dad’n Me

The first game I played was ‘Dad’n Me’

and I just found out that purple character is quite familiar to me. Maybe I had played this kind of game before, maybe at childhood or something?

It’s a punching game and it was ranked as a popular classics.

It was super easy. Just control with your arrow key, and punch the little bantlings with A.

I can feel my stress reduced.

I will play this again when I feel like to beat somebody. Haha

(But where’s Dad though?)
