The Halloween Hunt

I played Halloween Hunt, celebrating Halloween week!

The game graphic design was quite simple than I expected, and console was also not very complicated.

It was really straightforward RPG game which reminded me of Pokémon game(Nintendo, 1996, Gameboy).

My Character can obtain new skills and states when he got Halloween coins by battle.

Battle looks like this. Random monsters came out, and I have to fight with my character’s learned skills. To level up my adventure grade and be more powerful, I have to stack more money to buy some skills and stats, which need a lot amount of patience.

At my first few turns, I didn’t know where and when the monsters come out, so I just hung around randomly. But soon I knew that depends on my need, I can control the frequency of random battle. So when I need urgent money to boost up, I could manifest the frequency and gain money in a short time.

I liked this part because I could feel like I was the one who can control the game systems for my own need.

The adventure was developed when I find secret key and weapon to get into next stage room. And I had to defeat gatekeeper dragon so as to step into next ACT.  To build up my character as strong as to fight the dragon, I had to undergo a number of random battle which made me exhausted.  Moreover, it became harder and harder to perform the skill because during the battle, the skill window was so small and narrow. I had to find out my needed skills one by one.

Eventually, I could proceed till ACT III and it was my limit. I can’t take over the tiring random progress anymore. But during the game, I enjoyed it so much because I could raise the character more powerful with the skills and stats, I had to come up with strategy to spend my halloween money as worthy as possible. I will try out more RPG games and rank them with my own experience.

Reaper of the Undead

I played my first shooting game in game library.

This is quite straight forward, but that attribute made me so absorbed to this game.

Actually I’m not a big fan of shooting game, but it was easy to control

Especially the part that I liked most is ‘auto-aim’.

I was often having hard time with aiming the target during shooting, but it was so easy that all I did was pointing my direction, and it’s automatically went off.

Discovery 1 : When I am surrounded by dozens of zombie, I have to calmly change my direction because I easily get run out of ammo. When I have a corner, I have to circle around it with zombies heading to me. If I’m coming to the dead-end, it means literally dead end.

Discovery 2 : After one stage clear, I can choose one option of upgrade. There are options like : running speed, ammo capacity, health, protection, ammo penetration, damage, etc. And I found out the attribute to win the stage is ‘saving time’, no question to ask. How to save a time? The attributes like

; basically the speed such as running speed, reloading speed. And damage (which reduce one ammo for killing the zombie),  fire rate(reducing bullet shooting speed), ammo capacity (plus 4 bullets in ammo), and sometimes bullet penetration (able to kill multiple zombies with one shot)

Those are key primary factors to reinforce the character effectively. And other attributes like bullet power, restoration, protection is less necessary.

From second ground, new type of zombie who is fat and not easily get killed appears. It needs about 10 bullets to kill it, and when they die, they emit gross gas which also kills me. And from second stage, it was really hard to kill all the zombies with my capacity. So I easily get killed usually surrounded by zombies.

So that was my final score: Till stage 2-2.

I mostly like the whole game. This is kind of attractive and even addictive even its control and interface is quite simple. And I think the game’s simplicity sometimes arouse interest.

Just one thing that I didn’t like is – character is so easily get dead.

Just one single touch of zombie means dead, it’s too unfair.

It takes 3-4 bullets to kill the zombie. At least it can be little bit ran down with health, but one touch-one kill is too short.

Beside that, I like it so much that I played it more than 20 times.

Cube Escape : The Cave

I played ‘The Cave’

It was the escape game which I am really bad at it.

The whole theme and atmosphere was really creepy and It look like something really scary will happen at any moment.

The cave look like it has really creepy story in there, and many evidences are indicating the awful incident happened to one family.

There’s none of the detailed, specific direction to make it out.

All I had to do is finding the quest and put the puzzle together.

And also I had to find the right key and mission requested for.

It was all by myself.

Usually, if I felt so complicated with the game that I playing,

I looked up the solution or hint to find out the proper answer.

But in this game, I felt something

If I made the task properly, the sign turns out from the quest book,

and the light to escape that room turns on.

And when all the 4 lights are turn on, I could escape the room.

(This was one of the quest that I had to do, and it gross yuck
I was worried about this kind of situation would happen again. )

I did everything that I can do.

But there’s always the new task which seems so insoluble.

I always felt like ‘I can’t make it out this time anymore’

But I could do. This game made me confident, patient, and attempting.

I did not look up for the answer, and make out my own way.

There’s something similar game in Korea, which is played offline, ‘Room Escape’.

I’m actually really bad at it.

I always use the hint, and flutter about the room without making sense of the clues.

But with this game, I felt like I’m really enthusiastic with the problem solution, and felt more patient.

So I made out for the first room.

And I thought it was the end and I made it 🙂

But there was one more room which has different theme,

and I finally gave up.

I spent more than three days to make the whole things out.

It was my best to struggle with this.

This game’s theme is really unique and the atmosphere which I felt little bit scary and spooky, I really liked it.

Because it made me more immersed in. And I think this kind of element is essential to the game’s engagement.

I’ll keep trying to make the room escaped.

Anti Chess

I played really creative game : Anti Chess!

As you can guess from the title of the game, it is anti-rule chess game.

The game goes like this. You can move your chess piece with the same rule from the original one, but the difference is : Not to kill the counterpart, but to kill my self.

It’s a Suicide Chess. The one who lose all of its piece wins.

Just switch the point of view from me to a counterpart. Originally, if I find something that I can attack, I should move it and kill it. But in this reversed game, I must be killed so I have to move my piece to where it can be attacked.

And in the occasion when my piece can attack the other, there’s no other way than go for it. So weird that I just killed too much of the opponent at first. Normally that means I win, but in this game it’s not.

And actually he was moving strategically to be killed by my pieces. Feeling strange, but within some trial and order I could figure out the strategy.

I put my brain to work :  “Think as if I am the opponent” And then I have to calculate the possible move to be attacked. So I made the situation that the opponent can’t help attacking my things! Just one move per one turn. So if he moved his piece to attack mine, that’s all done, even though it was compulsory.

It means if I keep permitting calculated suicide, the opponent should keep attacking. That was the strategy that I found. So I also have to think about how the next move would be.

Nevertheless it was a simple game, still I was so impressed that very little conceptual shift of the rule can make totally different game. I could enjoy it very much. I’ve once fallen into chess when I was 12 or something, and gave up when I felt bored of it because I played too much. But I feel obsession once again to this another version of chess game. Totally the same pieces and same predictable move, but quite different outcome! Sounds nonsense but enjoyable.

I highly appreciate this game.
