The days of being a MASTER MECHANIC are over. Just prior to retiring after 42 years in the trade I was instructing a class on advanced hydraulics. One of the students came to me and advised me that he needed to take 4 days off to fly out to a machine in need of repair. I hesitated in my response as this course is difficult for most students. He asked if he could show me what he did for his employer as he opened his laptop up, he proceeded to share with me how he was setting up the computers between the engine and the hydraulics so the machine would perform. it was one of the best lessons that I had over the years. he took the 4 days off class to help out his boss and the customer. I have often shared with the students ” consider the day lost that you didn’t learn something new” I don’t remember who said it first to me, but it has all ways stuck with me. Joe Skipsey RSE
