{"id":1095,"date":"2012-08-15T16:56:11","date_gmt":"2012-08-15T23:56:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.viu.ca\/limi\/?page_id=1095"},"modified":"2021-10-25T12:50:21","modified_gmt":"2021-10-25T19:50:21","slug":"syllabus","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.viu.ca\/limi\/courses\/past-courses\/anth-418\/syllabus\/","title":{"rendered":"ANTH 418 Syllabus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is a <strong>hands-on course<\/strong> in which students <strong>collaborate with community organizations and institutions,<\/strong> primarily Nanaimo Museum to develop and produce research for a virtual exhibit.\u00a0 The working title is Researching Racism in the Community: Bridging the Past to the Present.\u00a0 A variety of research techniques will be incorporated into the projects that individuals or groups choose.<\/p>\n<p>The objectives of this course are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To learn about research issues,<\/li>\n<li>To learn how to conduct research,<\/li>\n<li>To meet and collaborate with community, and<\/li>\n<li>To produce usable research or projects for community organizations and institutions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Given the nature of the topic, the class will be run as a seminar.\u00a0 Field trips will be scheduled, with an optional one to Vancouver.\u00a0 Evaluation will be based on <a title=\"ANTH 418 Evaluation &amp; Assignments\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.viu.ca\/limi\/courses\/current-courses\/anth-418\/evaluation\/#Participation\"><strong>attendance and participation<\/strong><\/a> (20%), <a title=\"ANTH 418 Evaluation &amp; Assignments\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.viu.ca\/limi\/courses\/current-courses\/anth-418\/evaluation\/#Opinion\"><strong>opinion piece<\/strong><\/a> (5%), <strong><a title=\"ANTH 418 Evaluation &amp; Assignments\" href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.viu.ca\/limi\/courses\/current-courses\/anth-418\/evaluation\/#Discussion\">discussion forum<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(10%), <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.viu.ca\/limi\/courses\/current-courses\/anth-418\/evaluation\/#Film\"><strong>HeritageBC webinars<\/strong><\/a> (15%);
