{"id":3441,"date":"2021-01-13T22:59:51","date_gmt":"2021-01-14T06:59:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.viu.ca\/limi\/?page_id=3441"},"modified":"2021-01-14T10:17:08","modified_gmt":"2021-01-14T18:17:08","slug":"anth-388-syllabus","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.viu.ca\/limi\/courses\/past-courses\/anth-388\/anth-388-syllabus\/","title":{"rendered":"ANTH 388 Syllabus \u2013 Language and Culture"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Everyone communicates to express needs, wants, and more.&nbsp; The manner in which we do so reflects our culture, which is acquired over time through enculturation.&nbsp; Within a social context, words can mean much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The topics chosen for this course stem from how language has increasingly been weaponized over the past few years.&nbsp; Communication has also been impacted by technology.&nbsp; We are experiencing this now\u2014in this moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instruction is through online delivery (zoom and <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.viu.ca\/d2l\/loginh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">VIULearn<\/a>).&nbsp; <strong>BE PREPARED TO PARTICIPATE VIRTUALLY!<\/strong> &nbsp;Your grade will be based on <strong>participation<\/strong> (20%), <strong>opinion piece<\/strong> (5%), <strong>name story<\/strong> (15%), <strong>newspaper analysis<\/strong> (20%), and <strong>restaurant project <\/strong>(20%).
