Janelle Hatch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Janelle Hatch is a Registered Dietitian and Public Health Professional with over 20 years of experience, currently serving as the Lead for Food Security at the BC Centre for Disease Control. She works collaboratively with regional health authorities, the First Nations Health Authority, and provincial ministries to strengthen food security, reduce food insecurity, and support Indigenous food sovereignty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her keynote, Janelle will unpack the definitions of food security and food insecurity, exploring whether we share a consistent understanding of these often-used terms. Drawing on recent provincial initiatives, she will challenge common myths, highlight evidence-based approaches, and identify actionable steps toward equitable and just food systems in British Columbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marie-Jos\u00e9e Massicotte <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marie-Jos\u00e9e Massicotte is an Associate Professor at the School of Political Studies, University of Ottawa. Her work focuses on social movements, agrifood politics, and alternative economies, grounded in political ecology and environmental justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her keynote, Student Organizing for Food Justice<\/em>, she explores how students across Canadian campuses are mobilizing in response to rising food insecurity. Drawing from her research on peasant movements and food activism in Mexico, Marie-Jos\u00e9e connects global struggles with local student-led efforts. She also engages with activist research methods and the ways theory and practice intersect to drive social change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jaime Hansen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jaime Hansen is the Executive Director of Swipe Out Hunger, with over 20 years in the community benefit sector. Based in Boise, Idaho, she advocates for equitable access to food and basic needs. Jaime also teaches Nonprofit Management at Boise State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her Keynote Solutions to Student Hunger<\/em>, will address the growing challenge of meeting students\u2019 basic needs\u2014particularly food and housing\u2014on higher education campuses.
