We are in urgent need of financial help from our community given the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in El Fasher, Darfur, where civilians have been trapped between the two warring parties, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), for more than two years during the ongoing war (April 2023 to date war). Thousands have fled to Tawila/ East Jebel Mara, which remains under the control of Sudan Liberation Army led by Abdel Wahid Mohamed Nur, where they have been able to find safety.
For over two decades, Darfurians have carried the weight of a crisis born from the ashes of genocide (2003-2005), when the Sudanese government and its militias committed systematic violence against non-Arab communities. As a result, an entire generation has known nothing but war, violence and displacement. During the current cycle of conflict that erupted in April 2023, El Fasher in particular has been under siege by both the SAF and RSF, leaving residents cut off from food, water, medicine and basic protection. Starvation and bombardment have claimed countless lives. Now, the RSF’s has seized full control of the city, deepening fear and suffering, while leading thousands to be displaced to Tawila.
Today, humanitarian aid access is limited, and survival depends largely on local community efforts. In Tawila, women-led initiatives like Voice of the Displaced Women Initiative and the Mayarem Association for Change provide lifesaving aid including food, hygiene, psychosocial support, protection services, and women’s empowerment programs to families fleeing El Fasher and other conflict zones.
These groups and others are working tirelessly with limited resources while facing overwhelming need. The situation demands urgent, life-saving support. We see that it is critical to amplify the voices of El Fasher’s displaced women and to support their humanitarian leadership efforts. We are calling on our community to respond.
Every dollar counts, it saves many lives. Your solidarity and action can help sustain life, hope, and dignity for the people of Darfur.
Yours, in solidarity, Amel Aldehaib and Magnolia Pauker
