Vancouver Island University, Nanaimo, Canada
I am a 2nd year student at Vancouver Island University in the Tourism Management Program. I’m in love with the arctic; being from the Northwest Territories, and having explored a bit of Iceland, I cannot wait to start exploring the Yukon, and then more of Scandinavia. My plan after I get my education is to go back to northern Canada and own my own dogsledding rescue business.
I am a 2nd year student in the Bachelor of Tourism Management program at Vancouver Island University. I hope to expand my learning while visiting the Yukon. Originally from Northern Alberta, and a transplant from Newfoundland, I’ve had the opportunity to live in both extreme cold and extreme snow climates. Believe it or not, I’ve missed it over the past year while living on Vancouver Island! I have an interest in ecotourism and sustainable tourism in regards to how they inspire and create positive interactions between people and the places they experience. I plan to explore these topics further while visiting the Yukon.
I am a 4th year undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Tourism Management program at Vancouver Island University. I have a strong interest in community development, particularly in natural and rural environments, and how tourism can play a helpful role. I moved to Canada at a very young age, and I spent my childhood playing in the snow for over 6 months out of the year. Now that I am older, I have developed a more sophisticated interest in winter and how it very much represents Canada’s cultural identity. By attending the 2018 Yukon Winter Field School, I look forward to experiencing more of what Canada has to offer while also developing my professional interest in community and tourism development alongside a great team of fellow students. This is an experience that I have considered for many years, and I am excited by the opportunity.
I am enrolled in the Master of Arts in Sustainable Leisure Management at Vancouver Island University. Winter plays an increasingly important economic role for Polar destinations. I am interested in the WTFS through my thesis research. My study examines the emerging Chinese market tourists’ motivation for winter tourism in the Yukon Territory. The field school will give me a good chance to experience winter tourism firsthand. With enthusiasm and determination, I look forward to an unforgettable experience.
UiT The Arctic University of Norway
I am a second-year student in the Master of tourism in UiT The Arctic University of Norway. I was born and raised in Finland not far away from the Arctic Circle which means that I’m pretty used to winters though the winters are relatively mild in my home town. Having never been to Canada before, I’m looking forward to my experience in the Yukon. I’m expecting to explore local nature and meet local people while expanding my knowledge of winter tourism.
I am a second year Master’s student at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, in Alta, Finnmark County, northern Norway. I have had already one arctic winter in Alta. I am interested in Nature-Based Tourism and Tourism Entrepreneurship.
