I was sometimes an unwilling participant in my Father’s quest to see all the provinces and territories of Canada. It wasn’t until I was older that I realised how endless hours in the back seat of a car, or later in a camper or light aircraft helped to forge my personality and choice of career as a Geographer. By age 25, I had met my Father’s goal in my own way as I rode my bicycle off a ferry to explore Newfoundland, my last province.
In a different era, I might have been an explorer of even more exotic, far-off places. However, in the 21st Century, I satisfy my need to explore with a backpack and a pair of trail runners.
