The Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Learning (CIEL) is collecting, recording and sharing stories of teaching and learning from across our campus. Acknowledging how fortunate we at the CIEL are to hear so many inspiring, interesting, and cool stories of teaching and learning, we decided to capture those stories and share them out, podcast style. Like many of our departmental share drives, The Share Drive podcast is a place to store and access the meaningful and inspiring work that our VIU colleagues are working on, passionate about, and making an impact with. The podcasts are downloadable, so you can even listen to them while you drive (the title works on so many levels!). We will be linking to our podcasts on this blog, and pushing them out in our various communications. We encourage (positive and thoughtful) comments. Also, if you have an idea or story that you’d like to share, or would like us to capture a story from one of your more humble colleagues, let us know.
Podcast #1: Hairdresser by Day, PhD by Night
Vidal Sassoon. Bra-making. A PhD in Education. In this very first podcast, we talk to VIU’s Sally Vinden about how her journey teaching in the Faculty of Trades and Applied Technology led her to pursue a PhD in Education. We invite you to tune in to hear Sally share stories of how she came to teaching and learning, and how her PhD studies are influencing her, and her work at VIU, in significant ways.
