We are excited to announce that employees and students at VIU can begin adding and creating media on the new VIUTube platform starting on July 4, 2022. Your existing media will continue to be available at https://viuvideos.viu.ca. CIEL will be working with our new vendor over the next two months to migrate that content to the new platform.

What is changing July 4?
On July 4, CIEL will enable the new VIUTube platform for students and employees to access through links in VIULearn. Existing media (anything added to VIUTube before July 4) will continue to be available at https://viuvideos.viu.ca and from the VIUTube link on https://learn.viu.ca until September 30, 2022.
If you try to upload a video using the Kaltura Capture software after it has been turned off on July 4, you will see an error that your media could not be uploaded. Kaltura Capture videos are saved locally on your computer and can be manually uploaded to the new VIUTube. To get help locating and uploading the source file of your video to the new VIUTube, please contact CIEL at learnsupport@viu.ca.
Why is this happening?
In order to avoid missing any content added to the current VIUTube platform when we migrate our data to the new system, we need to turn off all uploads to that site before we begin migrating media. Once we have turned off uploads at https://viuvideos.viu.ca, we can begin the process of copying all content from Kaltura to YuJa (our new provider). The migration process will take 4-8 weeks to complete so we want to start this as soon as possible to make sure your content can be accessed through the new platform in time for the September semester start.
What about my existing videos?
We will be working with YuJa to migrate existing media into the new platform over the next two months. As content is added to the new platform, you will see it in your My Media folder on the new platform. We will post a notice on this blog as well as in our Service Notices on the VIULearn login page once all content has been migrated so you can check to make sure you aren’t missing any content you expected to see in your media library and begin updating any course materials that contain linked or embedded videos.
CIEL staff are happy to help you with updating links or embedded videos in your courses for Fall 2022 once your media has been imported. To get assistance updating your links, please send us an email with details of where your videos are located in your course(s) or VIUBlogs site and we will update those items for you once the media migration is complete.
Where can I learn how to use the new VIUTube?
Starting July 4, 2022, the CIEL website will be updated with steps for how to upload, create, share, collaborate and more using the new platform. You can also request one-on-one training from a Learning Technology Support Specialist by emailing learnsupport@viu.ca.
