Rita Gower, Chair/Instructor, VIU Professional Bake & Pastry Arts Program, was quick to recognize how Zoom conferencing tool could provide the right media for her students to present part of their final capstone project. In doing so, her students also enhanced their digital literacy skills.

The students presenting in this video were in Week 35 of the foundation program and starting to get excited about their future careers as professional bakers. This project is designed to meet the course Learning Outcomes in an authentic way, meaning that this is a non-disposable project. Over the years, Rita has found that several of her students go on to run their own businesses, and this project has served them well when they begin that journey.

Take time to enjoy this video and you will see the baking students demonstrate their understanding of the various components required to assemble a business plan for a baking-related business. This includes a presentation for an interested investor and a written submission that provides all research, financial figures and projections, and rationale for a start-up loan.

Bet you can’t watch this without your mouth watering!

Fingers crossed we get to see Papillae Patisserie and Cookies & Cream in business one day! Good luck graduates of the VIU Professional Bake and Pastry Arts Program
