In today’s post, we’re going to look at two instructors who have used VIUBlogs to facilitate purposeful assignments that both give students meaningful choices and have lasting, public relevance beyond the length of the course.
There is a new way to set up quiz accommodations in VIULearn. Previously, student accommodations had to be set for each quiz individually using the Special Access feature. While Special Access isn’t going anywhere, a new Accommodations option allows you to set quiz timing and right-click behaviour for a student at the course level eliminating the need to do this for each quiz individually.
Giving students meaningful choices about how they demonstrate their learning can help students become self-directed learners who can apply the skills they learn with us in their future endeavours. However, for instructors in an online learning environment, giving meaningful choices can quickly become a logistical nightmare. Thankfully, there are things you can do to facilitate meaningful choices in an online learning environment without creating a mess in your course.
Starting December 8, 2020, instructors in VIULearn can opt in to using the new Assignment creation interface. This new version of the Assignment tool will replace the current Assignment creation workflow in Summer 2021. In this blog post we will look at the new Assignment Creation screen in detail so you can see what is new and choose whether you want to adopt this change right now, or wait until the feature is turned on for all users
The way that students and employees log in to VIULearn is changing July 23,2020.
In addition, there is an upcoming change to improve the email experience within VIULearn.
To help support instructors, CIEL has decided to not perform the VIULearn Course Cleanup in 2020.
The following semesters will be permanently removed from VIULearn in July 2021:
Fall 2017, 2018; Year 2017, 2018; Continuous Intake 2017, 2018; Spring 2018, 2019; Intersession 2018, 2019; Summer (May and June) 2018, 2019
