Important Note: Vancouver Island University’s outbound exchange program is paused effective January 1, 2026 and international field schools are paused effective December 11, 2024 pending program reviews.

VIU offers one exchange program and one short-term summer language program at our partner institutions in Japan through the Education Abroad program hosted by International Mobility.

J.F Oberlin University:

Highly integrative programs to ensure incoming international students are immersed with Japanese culture. An opportunity to learn and experience Japan in a supportive environment. Many opportunities provided to get more involved with clubs on campus and meet local students. The main campus is located in Machida, a suburb of Tokyo. Approximately 50km from the city center of Tokyo, which is only a train trip away.

Rikkyo University:

Rikkyo University is known for its affluent academic resources and student support. The student population is small compared to other major private universities, and there is an active interaction among faculty, staff, and students. Rikkyo values personal care and support. Located in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro area.
