I pursued social work after a series of traumatic experiences within the hospital system with no semblance of support, irrespective of my skin colour. I hope to work within the health care system to support families like mine. While I have not experienced the racism and systemic discrimination thatIndigenous peoples experience within this system, I can understand the fear and uncertainty that accompanies health care. My goal was to use the experiences, lessons, and advice of those who have helped me to ensure that I am not perpetuating harm. Their words are intertwined through the entire project. Drawing inspiration from In Plain Sight, San’yas, and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’sCalls to Action and using the words of those who helped with this project, my hope is that someone can relate to the words I wish I heard from others. I give my heartfelt thanks to those who have supported this project
