This assignment highlights my frustrations with the lack of public awareness regarding the contents of the National Inquiry in Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls: Reclaiming Power and Place (2019). The lack of public knowledge was a frustrating component when reading the report and then composing this assignment. When people do not read the report, they limit their knowledge about the violence and how to tackle it moving forward. This blueprint for change starts with several interviews from people in my life about their own personal knowledge of the report and violence against Indigenous women and girls. The remainder of the video details some of the important lessons it instilled and my urge for others to read it and learn. Lessons such as the impact of discrimination on personal relationships, or about listening to the Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people as the experts. These thoughts are presented as I explore the CBC news website that shows the faces, names, ages, and stories of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (CBC/Radio-Canada, 2016). This website allows their family members to tell their truth after police have ruled out foul play. This was a meaningful assignment that allowed me to properly reflect on this horrendous crisis.
