I recognize and give appreciation to the traditional lands of the W’Sanec, Lekwungen and Esquimalt nations upon which I have lived and learned over the last 5 years. I wish to recognize in the same capacity the X̱wemelch'stn nation where I lived before. I am an uninvited settler who has benefitted from my colonial lineage. I started the process of decolonizing my understandings and interactions with the world around me. I would be untruthful if I said I didn’t have a long journey ahead of me still, however if the last 5 years were to tell me anything, I can’t imagine how much more information I will have yet to gain. Through this short video, I hope to convey my sincere life-long commitment to learning and supporting the rights, revitalization and resurgence of indigenous communities. I will focus my discussion today on MMIWG as well as Indigenous land sovereignty.
