Integrated Pest Management (10%)

Part 1

We will be creating and implementing an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan for the commercial crop of the GR Paine greenhouses that you can apply to your home crop as well. This IPM plan will support you in developing this section of the assignment. 

For this part 1 of of the assignment you will be required to identify and compile a factsheet for the four (4) most common poinsettia pests including: whitefly, fungus gnats, thrips and mealy bugs.

Each factsheet should include:

1. Insect name, key ID features, picture of insect lifecycle, which stage of insect life cycle impacts the plant, where the insect attacks the plant and where it can be found on the plant.
2. At least two (2) Signs and at least two (2) symptoms of insect presence.
3. Control methods including at least 2 examples of each: cultural, physical, mechanical, biological and chemical (if possible).

Part 2

For part 2 of the assignment you will also be required to identify and compile a factsheet for the two (2) most common diseases in poinsettia production which are Pythium and phytophthora rots.

Each disease factsheet should include:

1. Disease name and type (bacteria/fungus/virus).
2. Conditions (environmental/cultural) that encourage/support disease.
3. At least two (2) signs and at least two (2) symptoms of the disease.
4. At least two (2) control methods for each disease including: environmental, cultural, biological, and chemical (if possible).
