VIU Login Service challenge impacting employees and students

Some users may encounter a security error when trying to sign in to VIULearn. The IT team is aware of this challenge and working to find a resolution. In the meantime, please try logging in at https://learn.viu.ca/d2l/login?noRedirect=1.

VIUTube All Uploads Now on New Platform

Media creation and uploads are no longer available at https://viu videos.viu.ca. To add new content to VIUTube, please use the new VIUTube which can be accessed from the navigation bar inside VIULearn.

Users trying to upload media from the Kaltura Capture software will receive the following error: “We are unable to connect right now. Please check your network and try again.” For assistance finding the local recording file and uploading it to the new VIUTube platform, please contact the Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Learning.

VIUTube Changes – July 4

The transition to a new VIUTube service will begin on Monday, July 4. VIU Students and Employees will be able to access the new VIUTube through links in VIULearn to upload and create content using the new platform by 4:00pm on July 4. 

New uploads and media creation to the old VIUTube platform (viuvideos.viu.ca) will be disabled once the new platform is set up. Users may experience a brief period where media creation is possible on both platforms before the old platform is disabled. Existing media can still be accessed on the old platform. Migration of this media will begin in mid-July and take approximately 6 weeks to complete.

Changes to CIEL Support Request Platform – June 7, 2022

On Wednesday, June 7, 2022, CIEL will be changing over to the new ticket management system implemented by the IT department in December. VIU employees and students can continue to request support by emailing learnsupport@viu.ca. However, the automatic email confirmation when you submit a request and the format for replies sent by the CIEL team will look slightly different. Replies from our new system will come from CIEL SERVICES.  

While we are in the process of switching to the new system there may be a delay in sending the automatic ticket created emails. If you are replying to or updating an existing support request that was submitted on or before June 1, you may receive an automated “ticket created” email. You can reply to the ticket created confirmation email to add additional information to your request at any time.

VIULearn Scheduled Maintenance April 21-25

We will be updating the way VIULearn receives information from VIU’s registration and records systems between April 21-25. During this update window, new information about enrolments, courses, and users will not be automatically imported to VIULearn. All changes made between April 21 and 25th will be imported once the maintenance is completed. 

If you need immediate access to a course in VIULearn during this window, please email learnsupport@viu.ca with your name, student number (if applicable) and the full course name (including the semester and section) so we can assist you.

VIULearn Email Delivery Issue Ongoing

Students with Hotmail.com email addresses may not be receiving some emails sent or forwarded from VIULearn. Our vendor is continuing to investigate this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience.

If you have a Hotmail.com email on your Student Record, please check your internal VIULearn mailbox periodically for any missed emails or change your forwarding email in VIULearn. If you need help changing your email, please contact us at learnsupport@viu.ca or call 250-740-6179.
